Joules & Joules Burnt Rio Acima Oil Bar is a derivation of our Burnt Rio Acima oil paint. In this process, safe quantities of beeswax and carnauba wax are added to the recipe, keeping the outer membrane solid, and the oil bar creamy inside.

Joules & Joules Burnt Rio Acima is made from a naturally occurring soil from the city of Rio Acima, Minas Gerais, Brazil. It is a highly lightfast reddish-brown earth with moderate tinting strength and low covering power. Its reddish color is achieved through a calcination process at temperatures exceeding 550C of the PY 43 pigment, our Rio Acima Earth. 🤎

One of Joules & Joules’ goals is to develop high-quality oil paints with maximum pigmentation. We extract the best from each pigment and oil to create a vibrant paint, with few stabilizers and no drying agents added. To follow this guideline, we overcame several challenges and, through research, testing, and the help of various artists, we found in the technique of sun-thickening linseed oil the artisanal solution we needed for the development of our products, aiming to maintain the high quality and maximum pigmentation of our paints.

The sun-thickening technique consists of modifying the properties of the oil through contact with oxygen and sunlight. Renaissance and Baroque painters already used this technique by exposing their oils to the sun and oxygenating them by mixing them with a spoon.

Joules & Joules Cadmium Yellow Lemon is a vibrant, light, opaque, and highly lightfast yellow, with high tinting strength and covering power. It is a cool, bright, greenish yellow, excellent for adding saturation and brightness to color mixtures.

Since 1804, when it was first made, it has been one of the most popular blue shades. Additionally, commonly known as `true blue`, it features as the primary color blue in many artists’ palettes due to its quality of neither being greenish nor purplish in its undertones.

The mixture between them results in a beautiful dark blue that is recessed and transparent. 💚 + 💙
