Naphthol Red
Joules & Joules Naphthol Red Matte Acrylic Paint is a medium red with intense brightness and a vibrant character, formulated with the single pigment PR 112. It offers high tinting strength and moderate covering power, with a semi-opaque transparency that allows for everything from dense layers to translucent applications and well-balanced mixtures. Its fast drying time and matte film ensure excellent adhesion and control during application, giving artists versatility for both direct painting techniques and layered work or chromatic blending.
The pigment Naphthol Red AS-D (C24H16Cl3N3O2) belongs to the family of synthetic organic pigments developed in the early 20th century as a safer and more economical alternative to traditional mineral pigments such as cadmium reds. Its hue was quickly adopted by artists and manufacturers for its combination of vibrancy, stability, and optical purity. With slightly orange undertones, Naphthol Red is close to Medium Cadmium Red, but with cleaner and more saturated hues, resulting in brighter chromatic mixtures.
With a lightfastness rating of II (Very Good), Naphthol Red Matte Acrylic Paint delivers solid performance and visual durability. Although it may fade under constant exposure to intense light, it maintains excellent stability when used under appropriate conditions. It is a versatile paint, ideal for artists seeking intensity and chromatic clarity in contemporary works, studies, or professionally finished pieces.
