Slate
 
The Joules & Joules Slate Oil Stick is produced from the mono-pigment Slate oil paint, obtained through the controlled micronization of Brazilian metamorphic slate rock. The formulation includes beeswax and carnauba wax, providing even surface drying and a firm yet creamy consistency inside the stick, ideal for transparent layers and subtle nuances. The result is a dark gray, matte, transparent color with low tinting strength and delicate covering power, allowing for gradual construction of neutral tones and sophisticated shadows.
 
The pigment is a natural aluminosilicate, classified as Lightfastness I, with medium to fine particle size, offering excellent physicochemical stability and long-term durability. Its slightly granular texture adds a natural quality and refined control during application, making it especially suitable for glazes, backgrounds, and discreet mineral effects.
 
Historically, slate has been known since Antiquity as a construction and roofing material, widely used in slates, tiles, and architectural cladding. Only in the 20th century did it begin to be incorporated as a pigment in the visual arts and industry, offering a unique and versatile mineral gray tone. In Brazil, deposits in Minas Gerais, Paraná, and Rio Grande do Sul are recognized for their purity and color stability.
